Thanksgiving Turkey Wattle Game

We love to play and come up with crazy games in our home for all the holidays.  This is a quick short game post, but we had so much fun with this games it deserved it's own post.

This is a take on a classic game turned into a Thanksgiving game.

Turkey Wattle Game

First things first.  A turkey wattle is the signature red hanging skin on a turkeys neck.

To make your Turkey Wattle, put a tennis ball or larger ball inside a red sock. Push it all the way down in to the toe area. I decided to go with fuzzy ones, because it looks more realistic and is softer.

Separate players into two groups. The players must pass the tennis ball down the line using only their chins, neck, and chest. The team that gets through all players first wins.
Such a simple game for such a great outcome.

We used to play it with apples and oranges in the 80's.

Version 2
Have team members split in half and line up on opposite sides of the room.  Players must hold the turkey Wattle under their chins with no hands, run across the room without dropping it,  pass it to the next player's neck without hands.  That player must repeat until all players have gone.  First team to have all players finish wins.

Kissing Turkeys
Two players must hold the wattle between their lips and carry from one end of the room to the other end,  only touching it with their lips-NO HANDS!

Comment below how your party guests liked the game or any other party game suggestions.

Personalized Pumpkins

We love, love, love Halloween at our house.  Our house goes from crazy Halloween decorations filling our house to a few small items for Thanksgiving.  I wanted to make Thanksgiving a little more special.  I found these fake pumpkins and tried to think how I could make them special.

I decided to personalized them.

I decorated this huge pumpkin with my Last name and year I was married.

Then, I made these smaller pumpkins and put mine and my husbands first names.  Of course, my kids were like "Where's our pumpkins?"  Not all decorations have to be about the kids.  My whole house has the kid's pictures and artwork all over it.  I just wanted these pumpkins to be about me and my husband.  However, if you want the whole family included you can make even smaller pumpkins for the kiddos.

The Awesome thing about these pumpkins is that you can decorate both sides of the pumpkins for the different holidays.

I used my Silhouette Cameo to design and cut Oracal 651 gold vinyl.

I played around with different fonts and ways of writing our names.  My sister in law wanted one that said "Give Thanks."  I made one for a friend that had her address number on it for her porch.

I put our Last name on a large 9 inch white pumpkin, sorry no pictures.

I put our first names, address number and "Give Thanks" on 5.5" orange carvable faux pumpkins.

Cut out the design and add the transfer paper.

Measure out on your pumpkin where you would like it placed.
I set the pumpkin on the table and used a ruler to measure it out.  With my pencil I marked where to place the bottom of the vinyl. I like to use a pencil, because it is erasable.

You do have to be a bit careful when applying the vinyl.  The pumpkin is bumpy and curved, making the vinyl a little trickier to apply.  Which is why I don't have a picture applying the vinyl.  I folded the vinyl almost in half on the non sticky side.  You don't want to crease it.  Then I carefully rolled the vinyl over the pumpkin, pushing the vinyl into the grooves as I went.  I removed the transfer paper, and rubbed the vinyl to help adhere it to the pumpkin.  If you have bumps and the vinyl looks a little off, you can use a blow dryer to heat up the vinyl and push it down in the problem areas.  Be careful not to get it too hot though, the pumpkin is Styrofoam and will melt or off gas.

And you have a beautiful pumpkin!

Corn Husk Dolls

Thanksgiving
Corn Husk Dolls
We wanted to make some fun crafts/decorations for Thanksgiving.  I remembered my fourth grade teacher, Mr. Olsen, teaching us how to make Corn Husk dolls, and thought the kids would like it.  They loved it!

You will need a twine/rope and a package of Corn husks (found in the Mexican food section of your local grocery store, used for making tamales).

Soak corn husks in water for a few hours or overnight.

Separate your corn husks into similar sizes and shapes.

Pick two nice, not torn, long, wide ones.

Thanksgiving Craft

Put them on top of each other and tie them off on the skinny side about an inch or two down.

Turn the corn husks inside out where you tied them together.

Tie off the the section you just flipped.  This will become the head.  If it is too thin, you can add a little chunk of corn husk and stuff it.

Grab a piece that wasn't good for the body and roll it.  Tie each end off with the twine.
This will make your arms.

Lift the top corn husk under the tied off head.  Place arms tightly against the head between the two corn husks.

Tie off he two husks under the arms.

Grab two skinnier corn husks.
Cross these two skinny pieces behind the doll.

Fold the skinny pieces over the top of the doll.

After you've folded both pieces over the shoulder, tie them off with twine making a shirt.

Trim any longer pieces off your doll.

If your doll won't stand you can tie her around a small cup to dry and harden.

The girls wanted to make a family.  They twisted and rolled a corn husk and tied it off to make a baby.  They made smaller dolls to make children.

To make a boy corn husk doll, just cut up the middle of the skirt and tie off the feet with twine.

Perfect craft and decoration for Thanksgiving, Fourth of July, Columbus Day or Pioneer Day!
