Halloween Leg Stumps

 

We love Halloween at our house.  We definitely go all out with the decorations.  We are cheap though, so we try to make cheap decorations into something neat and scary.

We picked up a severed leg/foot stump prop from our local dollar store.  We've had these feet for years.  We try to change things up every year with out spending too much money.  Some years we've had them on a plate for a Halloween Meal, or outside with other body parts in a wheel barrel.

This year we thought it would be funny to put my daughters cupcake socks on them and put them in old shoes.  Debated over these shoes, high heels, or combat boots.  We then placed them in front of the bench where the kids put their shoes on.

Such a simple and easy decoration that packs a big punch.

Halloween Yard Statues

We wanted to make some life size Monster Statues for Halloween.  We bought some costumes on clearance after Halloween last year for 75%-90% off.  Making them $5.00 or less each.

We used PVC pipe to make the bones, pool noodles to add body mass, and case lot card board boxes covered in plastic for the body.

We used an old plant holder to give the head shape. 

You can also use PVC pipe to make a form.

Cut the pipe to size of the costume.

We used safety pins to hold the costume in place.

Repeat steps for all your monsters.

Zombie Costume

We used dowels in the ground to keep them standing.

One in the pole and one outside the pole and zip tied them together.

We didn't want them to become projectiles in the wind.

If the wind is strong enough the possibly could break in half.

Take all safety precautions when installing your monsters.

For the scarecrow Scream costume, we made a cross out of PVC pipe to replicate a real scarecrow.

For this phantom costume, we wanted it flowy and ghost like.

We only made shoulders out of PVC pipe and stuffed the head.

 It blows in the wind like a sock kite.

We put some yard lights to light up the monsters.

How to Glue Eyes on a Halloween Mask

DIY Cousin It

I absolutely love the old Addams Family TV series.  My favorite character was Cousin It.  I have been wanting to make a Cousin It for my Halloween decorating for many years now, and finally did.  I love how it turned out and it was so cheap to make.

What you need:

2-6 Hula Skirts (depending on how thick they are, I used 3 but decided I needed a 4th)

48" X 52" Chicken Wire

A Hat

Sun Glasses

Gloves for protection

Wire or Zip Ties

Put on your gloves so you don't cut your hand on the chicken wire.

Roll out your chicken wire and cut off about 4 1/2 feet.

I used bricks to hold down the chicken wire while I cut it.

Once cut, roll it to make sure it's the size you want.

We made it more cone shaped for a more realistic look.

Just make sure your hat fits.

We just used some wire we had lying around the house, I think it's to hang pictures.

  I first bent the chicken wire around itself to hold it together and hide the sharp edges.

My daughter then strung wire with needle nose pliers through it to hold it together.

My hubby recommended zip ties after we finished. So, the choice is yours.

Stand up your cone shaped chicken wire.

Double check the hat fits.

Tie the hula skirts around the chicken wire, at least two skirts per row.

Put on your hat and sunglasses.

If you want you can trim him up a little.
