Father's Hammer Gift and Other Tool Gift Ideas

I have loved making personalized gifts for my family using my Silhouette Cameo, it just adds that professional clean cut touch.  I made this hammer for my dad for Father's Day.  On one side it's serious and touching, the other side is more funny and to the point.

I used Oracle 651 vinyl to make it more permanent.
For little kids, it would be really special to cut it out in their handwriting by using the trace feature on your Silhouette Cameo.

If you do not have a Silhouette Cameo or Cricut, ask a friend or there are plenty of people online that will cut personalized vinyl for you, at a minimal cost.  If you really can't use vinyl, then paint or a sharpie marker might be an option.

Military Gift

Father's Day or USAF Gift

Father's Day Gift
Air Force Gift

OK, so the girls wanted to try the new silhouette cameo out.  They decided on a T-shirt for Dad for Father's day.  They wanted it to be funny.  They have seen a lot of shirts saying "World's Greatest Farter, I Mean Father."  They wanted something along those lines.  We were up on the military base and saw a baby wearing a onesie similar to the shirt above, and changed it up to match a grown man in the Air Force.

OTHER USAF IDEAS:
U: Usually; Unique; Useful; Understanding; Useless; Underage; Un_____;...
S: Sleeping; Snoring; Sisters; Sinning; Sitting; Smoking; Soldiers; Saving; Snoozing; Second...
A: And; Are; As; Always; Airman; American; Attractive; Attitude; Angry; Awesome;...
F: Farting; Fighting; Flying; Fun; Flirting; First; Forever; Fire; Family; Friend; Father;...

Have fun with it and come up with your own:
Unique Soldiers Are Family
Usually Sisters Are Fighting
Underage Soldiers Always Flirting

They were lucky enough to find an XXL T-shirt at the local $ store that was a good brand and didn't seem to have any defects.

They then designed the shirt on the Cameo using a stencil font.
Don't forget to mirror your image.  Ha ha, because we did!
*Don't have a silhouette, just buy some iron on letters at a craft store.

Cut it out using HTV (heat transfer vinyl) shiny side down.

Remove excess vinyl.

You're gonna want to measure your shirt to get the image centered.  If you've cut it on the right side, it should go on just like a sticker.

Now you're ready to iron it on.  If you have a heat press that works best.  (on my wishlist, one day) If not, use your iron on the linen setting.  I like to use parchment paper over the plastic backing to help, but you could even use an old T-shirt.  Go over the entire shirt several times with the hot iron, pressing really hard.
Be careful no to burn it or yourself!  An adult should do this step!

Remove the plastic protective backing once the HTV sticks to the shirt.

If it isn't sticking all the way, you can put the parchment paper back over it and iron again.  But be careful, it no longer has the protective backing.

There you have it, a shirt any Air Force Dad would love!

Father of the Bride or Father's Day Gift

We just got a silhouette cameo and decided to give it a try.

I wanted to make something really special for my dad, since I usually only make stuff like this for my mom.

For my Dad's gift, I didn't think about adding it to the blog and taking step by step pictures.  Sorry!

Father of the Bride
Dad... Of all the walks we've taken together, This one is my favorite.

I picked up a unfinished plaque at my local craft store, already cut in this shape.
I used a 40% off coupon making it only $1.69.

I painted it black with craft paint.  After the paint dried, I lightly sanded the edges.  I really wanted to find an unfinished frame that would work, but I couldn't in the short amount of time I had.  So, I decided to mod podge the picture on.  I taped around the picture leaving a small gap to give the mod podge a clean edge.

I then cut out the saying in vinyl on my silhouette, and adhered it to the plaque.  Finally, spray painted the entire project with clear spray paint to seal it and protect it better.

You can either attach ribbon to the top to hang it, drill a hole an inch from the bottom in the back and place a dowel to it like a framed picture on a desk, or display it on an easel.
Would make a great thank you gift after the wedding to Dad.

Hope he likes it!
