Hershey Kisses and Tongs Party Game

Here is the revised version of our Hershey Kiss Party Game.  In the original game you use a fork and knife.  Unfortunately, a fork and knife might be considered a weapon in some schools.  We thought long and hard on a safer alternative.  We decided to try tongs.  They worked great!

First, you need a bag of your favorite Hershey Kisses or Hugs.
(we played it for Valentine's Day and opted for the hugs)

Hershey Kiss

A cake pan to play in. Dump the entire bag into the pan.
*I always leave a handful of candy out, just in case a player didn't get any.

A pair of kitchen tongs.

Two Dice and a pan or cup to roll them in.

The object of the game is to roll the dice.
When a player rolls doubles they get to try and unwrap the
Hershey's Kiss or Hug only using the tongs.

To play:

Have players sit in a circle.

Place the pan of Hershey Kisses or Hugs in the center.

Start with the youngest player.

Roll two dice one time in a pan or cup, and pass the dice to the left.

Every player that rolls doubles gets to use the tongs to unwrap the Hershey Kisses or Hugs, their turn continues until another player rolls doubles.

Once another player rolls double the player must drop the tongs into the pan.  The pan is then passed to the player that rolled doubles, and they get to unwrap the Hershey Kisses or Hugs until another player rolls doubles and so on.

In order to keep the Hershey Kisses or Hugs, they must completely unwrap the Hershey Kiss or Hug using only the tongs.  The player must then lift the Hershey Kiss or Hug from the pan using only the tongs, before doubles is rolled by another player.  If the Hershey Kiss or Hug is not completely removed from the pan when doubles are rolled, it must remain in the pan for the next player to try and remove from the pan.  This is the rule that will cause the most conflict and frustration, because the chocolate will more times than not, go to the player that did not unwrap it.

It is a very fast paced game.  Get those dice moving around fast.

dice game

If a player rolls snake eyes (two ones)  they get a count of 5 seconds of time to unwrap the Hershey Kisses or Hugs before the next player can roll the dice.  Any play by another player during those 5 seconds is void.

If a player rolls a seven or eleven the direction of play
changes from left to right or right to left.

The kids get a little more hyper and excited as the game proceeds, be sure to ensure no player chucks the tongs and pan at other players.

Leave the wrappers in the pan, as they become unwrapped.
This makes it harder to find the Hershey Kisses or Hugs,
making the game more challenging.

The game is over when there are no more Hershey Kisses or Hugs left.

The winner is technically the person who unwrapped the most Hershey Kisses or Hugs, but with a game where everyone gets candy we all win.

We hope you love this game as much as we do!

We'd love to hear about how and where you've played it!
